Between visual regressions, bad decisions making all their core game modes worse, terrible servers year after year, pandering to younger and younger demographics, increasingly disgusting micro-transaction practices and more, what has always been my favourite game series I haven't even picked up in a few years. Look at the difference between these two 'GM mode' cut-scenes -ĢK have mailed it in this whole console generation. It's gotten to the point where a product like FIFA is making 2K look last-gen. In 4 years they've gone from what looked really damn good to this really matte/cartoonish visual style with lots of cut out visual downgrades.
What I will say though, is that 2K regressed HARD from 2K14 - look at this video as one of many examples of how the lighting, cloth/rim/net physics, facial animation, detail and more have been completely dumbed down. The one area I will say the players look more realistic in Live is the layups - very natural.Īnimation has so much more to do with visual realism than the actual face scans. Live 18 CLEARLY looks better here, but the thing is, the actual player models, especially in motion, look a lot more realistic in 2K (that's not so much a credit to 2K, because their body types have been really bad, it's just that Live is so far behind).
